I first heard about Al‑Anon while in the hospital. A wonderful social worker said to me, “It’s not your fault. You didn’t cause it.” At the time, I really didn’t know what she was talking about. I was in a dense fog of pain and couldn’t see my way out. Her words guided me to my first Al‑Anon meeting.

Initially, it was my therapist who told me about the Three Cs and told me to try Al-Anon. It still took a long time to accept I didn’t Cause it. My ex had spent the intervening 5 years blaming me after I left him. The guilt has subsided with a lot of work and reading the Steps. Attending Al-Anon has really given me comfort just by listening and knowing I’m not alone.
The 3 Cs really aid me in times of stress, in overwhelming situations, even when people are pointing fingers at my sins.
