In October 2016, I had only been working at the World Service Office for a month when I boarded a trans-Atlantic flight to Rome, Italy, to attend the 18th Biennial International Al‑Anon General Services Meeting (IAGSM). This week, the 19th Biennial IAGSM will kick off in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It’s been a whirlwind of experiences over the last two years and I can’t believe the time has gone by so quickly.

Planning and implementing the IAGSM is one of the key functions of the International Coordination Committee and we are thrilled to be hosting it this year. At this meeting, Delegates from General Services Offices around the world gather to listen to presentations, share the experience of their Structures, participate in workshops and Big Question discussions, and vote to select a host for the next IAGSM.

A full summary of the IAGSM will be published online in 2019. In that summary, you can read about the presentations, discussions, and reflections of the Delegates who attended. Keep an eye out for the announcement in a future edition of In the Loop!
