What I receive from Step 6 is the kindness, patience, understanding, and acceptance of my Higher Power. I am asked to be “entirely ready” to have my defects removed. While I am getting ready to remove a defect, I pray, I meditate, I journal, I share at meetings, and I speak with trusted Al-Anon friends. I know I want the defect to be removed and I know myself enough to feel those old behaviors, patterns, and reactions come as my first thought. For me, I can feel the unease in my tummy. Although, I was neve been in Alateen, I know that I would have needed it. When I first came to Al-Anon I used to say: “I came to Al-Anon, I was 34 going on 13” and this is exactly where I was. Today, after many 24 hours in Al-Anon, I still read the ALATEEN-a day at a time book every day, as part of my recovery.
