World Service Office: WSO Volunteers

WSO Volunteers

The World Service Office (WSO) Team of the Month: WSO Volunteers! (Board of Trustees [BOT], Executive Committee [EC], At‑Large members, and At‑Large Committee members)

The WSO is the organization that supports the worldwide fellowship of Al‑Anon. Volunteers serve on the Board of Trustees, the Executive Committee, and some selected committees (Audit, Executive Committee for Real Property Management [ECRPM], The Forum Editorial Advisory Committee, Literature, Public Outreach).

Since Al‑Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. (AFG, Inc.) incorporated in 1954, a Board was required to have oversight of its operations and maintain fiduciary responsibility and accountability to the fellowship. The Board of Trustees is made up of nine Trustees at Large, nine Regional Trustees, and one Sustaining Trustee (the Executive Director). The spiritual principles of the program are used during each Board meeting as the BOT carries out their responsibilities.

Since the Board meets quarterly, it delegates its primary responsibility of oversight of the WSO to its Executive Committees. The Executive Committee is made up of three At‑Large members, the Chairperson of the Board, the Executive Director, the Finance Chair, the Policy Chair, and a member of the WSO Staff. They also incorporate spiritual principles when they meet monthly to review the financials, the Strategic Plan, and any other important issues that may come up.

The ECRPM meets two times per year to ensure that the property is being maintained and to budget for large expenditures as needed. The selected committees meet as needed (some monthly, some quarterly, some biannually) with their membership consisting of At‑Large members, Delegates, Trustees, and Staff.
