Alcoholism is a cunning, baffling, and powerful disease, manifesting in ways that can leave families and loved ones feeling helpless and overwhelmed. In my journey, coming to understand that I didn’t cause it, can’t control it, and can’t cure it brought both a profound sense of relief and a daunting question: What now? The answer, for me, is found in the support and resources provided by Al‑Anon, particularly through its digital information clearinghouse, al-anon.org.
I’ve realized that the way alcoholism affected me was deeply intertwined with the way I trusted my Higher Power. Initially, I feared my journey would be bound in misery. However, being open to and using the many tools Al‑Anon offers, I found a renewed trust in a Higher Power capable of guiding me toward a spiritual awakening. This awakening, which I have gratefully experienced, filled with love and hope, has transformed my perspective and deepened my gratitude for Al‑Anon and the journey ahead.
As I continue my journey in the program, I frequently return to the tools found on al-anon.org. These include the Newcomers and Member sections, Service Guidelines, Conference Approved Literature (CAL), and Summaries of past World Service Conferences, all of which have provided clarity when I inevitably encounter setbacks in my recovery. The al-anon.org website has become another essential tool in my Al‑Anon toolbox, akin to attending meetings, talking to my Sponsor, and working the Legacies. Just as I discover something new each time I read Al‑Anon literature, I also find fresh insights and support in the resources available on al‑anon.org.
Ultimately, al-anon.org is more than a website; it’s a lifeline for those of us affected by another’s drinking. I encourage you to explore this online resource to enhance your own recovery and to contribute to the collective wisdom of your groups. Together, with the support of al-anon.org, we can navigate the challenges of alcoholism with confidence and hope, strengthen our meetings, and further our personal journeys in recovery.
