How Do You Use Technology to Enhance Your Recovery?
When used mindfully, technology can be a great ally in recovery by helping us stay connected to our program and other members and maintain healthy habits wherever we are.
June’s blog topic invites reflection: “How Do You Use Technology to Enhance Your Recovery?”
We also welcome sharings about Al‑Anon’s three Legacies, with this month featuring Step Six, Tradition Six, and Concept Six, and how they guide personal growth, group life, and service.
Sharings on the Member Blog may be used in future Al‑Anon publications.
New topics are being added each month!
I recently had a few months of illness that prevented me from attending meetings. The online meetings were a lifesaver for me. I used my laptop to attend a meeting almost every day. I needed more reminders than usual to keep my attitude positive, not to get isolated, and to be grateful. When I slipped into despair and self-pity, I had the groups online to help me get back on track.
I use technology every day to enhance my recovery through text messages, phone calls and emails. I have three main interests in my life: my family, my church, and Al-Anon. I focus my time and energy in these areas. I have made some dear friends in Al-Anon that I need to keep in touch with frequently. I use technology to keep my recovery alive and available in my pocket at all times. A digital copy of our daily reader on my phone is available when I have a break throughout the day. The electronic meetings are available regardless of location and almost any time of the day. I also use technology in my Al-Anon service work. Typed meeting minutes are easily sent via email to keep members informed. As the Area Website Coordinator, I share information and help members access that information. As bookkeeper for our Al-Anon Information Services, I use online banking and accounting software… Read more »

It’s a free app that allows me to journal my thoughts, include a picture from my phone and has some simple help tools like spelling and grammar help. I use it after I complete a daily CAL reading from one of my readers to help me with reflection and synthesizing my thoughts. I have even taken the best ideas from amount the journal entries to spend more time on to complete a submission for the forum. This journal tool I have appreciated as it’s easy and is… Read more »
