Service in recovery is like the third leg of a stool—a necessity for support and balance. Many of us find that participating in service provides surprising benefits to our overall sense of well-being. As part of Al‑Anon, Alateen invites its members to participate in service at the group, District, and Area levels too. Members of Alateen in local service positions follow their Area Alateen Safety and Behavioral Requirements (ASBR). How are you ensuring the voices of young members are heard in your Area?

Is there a teen attending your Al‑Anon group because there are no local Alateen meetings? Consider encouraging these young members to share their experience, strength, and hope and boost their recovery by serving in roles within the links of service or as At-Large members of the Public Outreach or Literature Committees (go to “At‑Large Committees” to review qualifications). Consideration should be given to the teen’s ability to travel to service meetings. What can your group do to welcome teens into all aspects of recovery, including service?
