“I know it's scary coming to your first Al-Anon meeting, it was for me. I found that everyone knew exactly how I was feeling because they had been through similar situations themselves. If you only take one thing from your first meeting it's this – remember, ‘One Day at a Time.’ So, take care of yourself and call if you need to talk. It will get better. Keep coming back!” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA

Help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics
About us
Al-Anon Family Group's purpose is to provide help and hope to families and friends of alcoholics. The Al-Anon Family Groups, which include Alateen for teenagers, provide support and encouragement to anyone affected by someone else's drinking. There are no dues or fees for membership. Attendance of Alateen is limited to teenagers and the adult Al-Anon members who are certified as Alateen Group Sponsors. Individuals referred to Al-Anon and Alateen groups benefit from contact with their peers who have similar experiences and are applying the Al-Anon program to their daily lives. They learn the facts about a relative or friend's addiction to alcohol and how it affects all who are close to the drinker as well as the drinker. Al-Anon and Alateen groups meet locally in over 118 countries. There are also electronic meetings (via email, telephone, and social media). Information about Al-Anon Family Groups is available in English, Spanish, and French on our website. Note: 1. What Is the History of Al-Anon’s Book “How Al-Anon Works”? “Alcoholics act and family members and friends react. Most of the time, we react because we don’t realize we have a choice. It’s automatic. In Al-Anon, we are reminded that we have choices.” (“How Al-Anon Works”, p. 30) “How Al-Anon Works for Families & Friends of Alcoholics” (B-32) is Al-Anon’s most comprehensive book today. It was developed following the passage of a motion at the 1990 World Service Conference to “give conceptual approval for the production of a comprehensive, informational and recovery book that reflects the universality of AI-Anon and Alateen..." It was originally released as B-22 in 1995 at the A.A. International Convention in San Diego, California, USA. Available in English, Spanish, and French, “How Al-Anon Works” is a helpful guide for anyone who wants to learn about Al-Anon Family Groups. The first part of the book explains the tools and ideas of the Al-Anon program. The second part shares real-life stories from people who have been helped by practicing the Al-Anon program. In 2011, a softcover version of “How Al-Anon Works” was made available at a lower price, initially as an outreach project so that groups could give a copy to newcomers. Once the book was available at a lower price, sales of the hardcover book dropped, and in 2017, printing of the hardcover book in all three languages was suspended for a trial period of three years with an annual review. “Alcoholism is a family disease. Al-Anon Family Groups is a program of recovery for you, not for the alcoholic. It is for people affected by someone else’s alcoholism. You did not cause it, you cannot control it, and you can’t cure the alcoholic. If you keep coming to meetings, you will gain tools to live by and find a community of peers who have also experienced the devastating effects of alcohol in their lives and families.” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #AlAnonFamilyGroups #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA

“I am a truly grateful member of Al-Anon Family Groups. Attending meetings regularly has given me my life back. I was a shell of a person before I found program. Today, I experience joy and peace. I have learned so much about myself as I have matured and become honest with myself. I can communicate my feelings so much more now and have better relationships. In the Al-Anon program I have learned a better way to live.” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #AlAnonFamilyGroups #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA
